Troops Recalled to Fort Niagara As War Fears Rise
On July 4 the Lady of the Lake arrived at Fort Niagara with orders for regiments to return or proceed to different posts. The 10th and 12th regiments landed, the 5th moved on, the 4th sailed to Sackett’s Harbor, and the 16th was sent into Fort Niagara. The shift likely stems from anticipated war with western Indians and stalled Mackinaw surrender by the British. Major General Brown expected soon.
