Sheriff Sale Notice and Runaway Slave Ad
On the first Tuesday in January at the Market-house in Augusta a sale will occur. A new enslaved man, about 25, marked with smallpox on his face, named Billy Emery, claimed to belong to the sheriff of Savannah, ran from Burke Jail on August 17, 1807. Jailor N. B. Emery Laster notes he now claims ownership by Mr. Shaw of Savannah. Steuben’s Miltitary Dineplin offered for sale at this office.
