Georgia Acts on Cherokee lands and new county creation
The legislature enacts measures to alter an 1832 act governing Cherokee lands and survey duties with militia protection for surveyors, repeats sections on residence and drawing lots, and sets April survey orders. It creates a new Cherokee county west of the Chattahoochee and north of Carroll to join the Western Circuit with elected officials and militia districts. It also raises pedlar taxes to two thousand dollars in counties and one thousand for foot traders, with penalties for slave trading by itinerant traders.
