Augusta Fire Prevention Ordinance Slashes Chimney Burns
An 1813 Augusta ordinance imposes a penalty up to twenty five dollars on any owner or occupier with a chimney seen burning within city limits. The fine splits with informer and corporation, and procedures follow existing forfeiture rules. Passed February 6 1813 with officials Seaborn Jones and N W Herbert signatures.
