Charleston Meeting Opposes U S Bank Agency

A large Charleston gathering on the 28th ultime endorsed resolutions opposing establishing a United States Bank Agency in the city. Mayor E W Noxon presided with Secretary Thoxas D Conny as secretary, and the meeting declared that a large majority of Charleston citizens oppose any such agency in the state.

Resolution on Agency Establishment and Taxes in South Carolina

The proposal denounces the establishment of the agency as harmful to trade commerce and agriculture. It argues banks incorporated by state law should serve locally and urges a memorial to the Legislature for prohibitory taxation if the Bank of the United States seeks to create the agency in the city or state.

Tablet Planned For St Pauls Church In Memory Of R Tunman

At a July 29 1836 meeting of the St Pauls Church Board of Wardens and Vestrymen the death of Rhuann Tunman Esq former chairman was announced. The board adopted resolutions honoring his memory including erecting a church tablet with a 300 dollar appropriation and naming a committee to carry out the tribute. A copy of the resolutions will be sent to his widow and published in city papers.

Mexican despatch on Santa Anna and Texas relations

From Vera Cruz and the official Mexican journal to the end of the month. It reports General Filisola’s discipline and his recall to Mexico after obeying Santa Anna’s halt to hostilities.
