Forsyth Corrects Augusta Bank Stock Clarification
In Senate on March 19 Mr Forsyth corrected an error about the Bank of Augusta. He described a stock sale at a 20 percent premium and clarified that the bank had authority to double its capital but had not attempted a doubling. He read a letter from Augusta financiers defending their public draw of specie from Savannah and stated the operation was wholly their own with nine banks involved and no government involvement.
