The National company starts a large fireproof structure thirty feet high with 80 by 220 feet footprint to house pattern shops and storage. The project relocates from near the railroad to the ball diamond site to free space for future offices and fuel storage.
Attica schools start the year with 627 students on day one, rising to 645 through the week. All grades gain students except the high school which remains at 132. Kindergarten 42, first 83, second 80, third 62, fourth 60, fifth 57, sixth 44, seventh 39, eighth 46. Superintendent Mullinnix plans another teacher to ease congestion and reassigns classes across floors as heating work continues. The day begins at 8:30 to extend the noon period for distant students.
Bricklaying started on the new Covington grade school which will replace the fire-destroyed building from Memorial Day. The cornerstone is set for October 6 with Covington C. O. F. lodge laying the stone and A. T. Livengood, school board president, delivering an address.
Miss Ora Clarkson, summer guest of her parents Mr and Mrs J D Clarkson on rural route 2, has gone back to Oklahoma to resume her teaching position.
In Crawfordsville Democrats renominated Martin A Morrison for Congress in the Ninth District by acclamation after his speech thanking supporters and pledging to honor past pledges. In Lafayette the Tenth District convention named John B Peterson of Crown Point as nominee amid factional fights and multiple nominations with bloc voting across counties.
Dr J R Hicks of Covington will depart next week as the Indiana State Board of Health delegate to the American Public Health Association and the fifteenth international congress on hygiene and demography. Indiana plans a large exhibit and will join a Panama canal hygiene inspection voyage after meetings with Dr Geo Rowland supervising county health duties in Hicks absence.
Warren progressives met in Williamsport to organize a county party and decide on a county ticket. Fred Landis attended as a keynote speaker while William H. Goodwin was named county chairman with Charles E. Watkins as vice chair, John Held secretary, and Charles D. Dick treasurer.
The Rev J T Orton formerly of Williamsport Presbyterian Church now serves as Presbyterial Missionary for Indiana and New Albany Presbyteries. His district covers 26 counties and 100 churches with headquarters at Bedford. He will revive weak churches and modernize Sunday school methods. Miss Allie Black of Kingman visits uncle John D Pearson east of the city.
Bishop Herman J. Allerding of Ft Wayne presided at Attica during a Tuesday morning confirmation for 63 candidates, assisted by six priests. The service, starting at 9:00, featured ceremonial processions, vestments, and a sermon, with names of the confirmands listed along with deacons and officiants.

The 86th Indiana Company C held a reunion at Osborne Prairie Church ten miles south of town with Col George F. Dick 83 and present, speeches by Dick Wolfe Hirsch and Goodwin. Eighteen members of Co C attended plus two dozen veterans from other regiments. Milton Hoover Milton Myers Henry Flesher Robt Reed Allen Boyce listed as deceased since last reunion. Attica invited for 1913 reunion. likely last large gathering for the regiment.
Lee Bethel received a two to fourteen year indeterminate sentence in the Jeffersonville reformatory by Judge Schoonover after a drunken fight in which he stabbed a man. Bethel, a foster son of Charles Bethel, faced an assault with intent to kill charge with $3,000 bond. the charge was reduced to assault, sending him away from Michigan City. He now pretends insanity and keeps to himself in jail.
An old cistern behind the Mud lavia building caved in Monday evening as Ralph Gay Charley Gustus drove across it in R B Kramer's auto racer. No injuries occurred and only one wheel sank. The hole was five to six feet deep after collapse. It will be filled and covered again with concrete.
Brant, recently back from Memphis with malaria, will not return soon. He managed George Sims' store in Proctor Arkansas since last spring, overseeing lumber interests. He contracted malaria during the Mississippi floods when Proctor and surrounding areas were under water, losing about 35 pounds and growing weak. He described the town’s small white population and large illiterate Black residents, noting mosquitos and rough conditions but decent relations with locals.
Lew Hanson of Marshfield visited the city on Wednesday. He recently returned to Warren county after years in Oklahoma. While working under Stinus Bernhart Hanson was injured when a bridge span collapsed into Pine creek at Rainsville. Gray was killed and Hanson was badly hurt, later recovering after months of layup.
The veterans picnic will be held at the Indiana State Soldiers home grounds in Lafayette on September 18. Veterans from many cities will attend. the G A R post from outside Tippecanoe county sending the largest delegation will receive a banner. Last year Williamsport won a large flag. A band is engaged and vocal music will be provided. Visitors will be transported up the hill and refreshments served.
Joe Reynolds former editor of the Delphi Journal and Miss Bessie Durant of New York City were married at the Hyde Park hotel in Chicago on September 4. The union was kept secret and Reynolds now serves as a buyer for J. W. Butler Paper Co. in Chicago, spending much time in New York and the East.
William E. Fleming of Bartlettsville Oklahoma attended his father Uncle Sammy Fleming’s funeral in the city and married Mrs Mary Rothrock widow of the late Amos Rothrock on Wednesday evening. Rev T W Stewart performed the ceremony at his home. The couple will reside in Bartlettsville.
Rev S H Lewis retires from the Free Methodist ministry due to age and his wife's ill health. He resigned to the conference at Danville Indiana. He has led a Danville church for three years and was a longtime evangelist and prominent figure in the conference. Rex Cooke leaves Daily Tribune duties for a Chicago printing job. Dan Cooke returns to fill the vacancy at the paper.
Henry Waldrip sold his suburban Crawfordsville home and hoped to move to Attica if a suitable house could be found. He visited Wednesday, told friends he would likely store their goods in Williamsport for a few months and spend the winter in the soldiers home at Lafayette with Mrs Waldrip.
Wabash officials announce Attica will gain a new modern depot with a single large waiting room. Plans call for Poston Oriental brick and cement floors, a project budget of 10 000 dollars, and rapid separate contracts to speed construction along with two new depots in the city within a year.
