A two story residence owned by Fred Springman on West Monroe Street burned after a defective kitchen chimney. Frank Strausburg and family escaped, while National Plant Board employees aided in saving belongings. Damage is about 450 with full insurance, and repairs begin soon. Youth Killed in Mellott Wreck at Stevens Station
Eight Veedersburg boys riding in empty box cars were wrecked at Stevens Station near Mellott. Cyril Glover, 16, was instantly killed as a tank car truck left the track and caused a rear-car collapse. Four others injured, including Merrill and Dove, with varying fractures and bruises. Inquest found death not the railway company’s fault. A similar derailment occurred near Rob Roy on the C I I line, injuring conductors and passengers, including Dorothy and Clara Babb.

Morning sessions discussed lodge business and at noon each member provided a dish. The gathering was described as very successful and enjoyable. J Frank McDermond Jr. drove the group to Rob Roy. Adelia Baker returned from Pekin after visiting relatives and attending the Louisville Medical College graduation of her son George. Her other son Bruce also graduates next year. The boys returned home for the summer.

Automobile Crashes Near Attica Cause Minor Injuries
A Southeast of Attica Sunday mishap left Frank Lauman and family with minor injuries after their car plunged from a bridge embankment through loose gravel. They escaped serious harm as neighbors aided, the car was repaired, and the family returned home the same evening. Another accident near Odell involved six Lafayette travelers. they were bruised but none seriously hurt when the car rolled after skidding onto barbed wire fencing during a straight stretch of road.
