Great Salt Lake Was Vast Fresh Water Lake Long Ago

A historical note describes Great Salt Lake as once a vast fresh water body about 18 000 square miles with an outlet to the Port Neuf, Snake and Columbia rivers. Arid climate reduced inflow, shrinking the lake to under 1 700 square miles, seventy by thirty miles, yet still a habitat for birds and bathers. Salt content varied with water level, and rivers supplied the salt. Also a short, unrelated anecdote from the St Louis Times about a six year old boy’s circus vision follows.
