Local residents report births, marriages, visits, and travels across Masena Anita and surrounding areas. Families welcome a baby boy, engagements confirmed, and several residents visit kin in Iowa and Nebraska while teachers begin the new school year and a new restaurant opens in town.
Herbert Cox of this city is married to Mrs Rowe Doyel of Brayton in Cornel Bluffy last Monday morning. Doyel had visited Cedar Rapids and returned Sunday night to Atlantic. The couple left on the midnight train for Council Bluffs Sunday evening and kept the wedding secret from friends. They returned Monday afternoon to their home.
Weather section reports rain and warmth affecting corn across counties. Audubon notes rapid denting but late thrashing. Shelby delays due to rain, pasture quality good. Cass and Pottawattamie show progress with rains aiding growth while delaying harvest. Montgomery warns dry sun needed to finish before frost. Adams and Adair report damp periods delaying thrashing but improving yields.
A new disease has appeared among cattle in western sections, affecting parts of Pottawattamie Harrison and Monona counties. Early signs include fever loss of appetite and rapid flesh loss. advanced stages show mouth and tongue swelling and protrusion. Some cases show foot involvement. Contagion possible. outbreak may be stamped out by isolating affected animals. State veterinary surgeon notified and expected to investigate.
Milas Anna Bopp and Oscar Yadon plan to wed at SS Peter and Paul's Catholic church at noon on September 14 in this city. The couple met in Bozeman Montana where Yadon operates a ranch. After the ceremony, a reception will be held at the bride’s parents home. The couple will return to Bozeman to reside. Over 150 invitations have been issued.

Several families and individuals depart or visit, including Mrs Dutchell, Rube Schmidt, Bill Harvey, Miss Billa Harvey, Walter Nunn, and Grace Trailer, with various trips to Colorado Wyoming and Atlantic. Viola Hellman hospitalized in Clarkson, expected five to six weeks. Lieutenant Rescue Palmer on leave. Ivan Beardsley becomes manager at the Lewiston electric plant. Fred J Bradly noted as Red Oak National Bank cashier.
Francis Drake and Clarence Shir ey were Walnut callers Saturday. Clarence Franklin has been hauling wheat to Lewis the past week. Mrs. Henry Williams and son Fred were calebs al at Wednesday In Walnut. Miss Hazel Franklin started to School In Lewis last Monday. Otto Manke and Paul Newman Wore Walnut callers Saturday. Mr. and Mrs Francis Drake spent last Sunday at their parents I, Z. Drakes Herman and Ernest Rabenstein and Harry Williams spent last Sunday with their grandparents, Heink Williams. Rube Young and Alvie Ireland were married In Avoca last Friday morning. Jake Rabenstein set up a new windmill Monday, Henry Grulke is building a new imachina shed. Ernie Grulke spent last Saturday evening in Atlantic and Sunday at Grant.
Mies Lena Christensen of Elk Horn visited the city for the day. Mrs James Blake of Audubon spent the day in town. Night school begins at Botna Valley Business College on Monday evening October 3 1886. John Schofield left this morning for Forbes North Carolina on business. Mr and Mrs Alagon Miller departed for Lincoln Nebraska to attend the state event.
Special to the Telegraph Avoca Sept 7 Roscoe Barton of Avoca fell down cellar stairs at his home last night, breaking his neck and dying instantly. His wife and son were away and returned about nine, found the body. A doctor declared no aid possible. Funeral at two with Elks lodge charge at the grave. Barton, about 45, longtime Avoca resident, attorney, former secretary of the fair association. He leaves wife and one child.
