A group of 35 to 40 businessmen gathered at the firemen's hall to discuss promoting Atlantic as a regional trade hub. They plan a new business men’s association, target the Normal school and a rumored Carroll to St Joseph railroad line, and appoint J. B. Jones P. F. O’Connell and T. G. Steinke to recruit fellows for a follow up meeting. Frank Snonffer opens a new horseshoeing and blacksmith shop on Chestnut Street Wednesday, pledging ten-hour days and expert track shoeing. Recalling twenty seven years in Atlantic, Snonffer vows to deliver quality work, with the shop located first door south of Meredith’s implement house.

Iowa Volunteers Parade Homeward from the Presidio

The Fifty-first Iowa volunteers arrived at the Presidio San Francisco greeted by relatives and Governor Shaw. General Shafter reviewed the troops with an artillery escort as crowds cheered. Colonel Lopez led the regiment past Van Ness and Lyon streets toward camp at the Presidio.
