Local residents travel to Avoca Walnut and Omaha visits fill a day. People from Massena Otava and Lincoln announce trips, weddings and work. A fire alarm prompts a field blaze check near the fairgrounds while freight traffic and ship schedules keep local commerce steady.
From Septembers to October first the recorder's office shows rising deeds mortgages releases and fees with chattel mortgages at a high count reflecting cattle prices and feeding prospects. Also notes pension mishaps and local accidents including a burn from hot grease and a street collision near Walnut and Fifth streets. Teddy Edwards passes through en route from New York to San Francisco seeking a transcontinental ride.
Numerous residents and visitors travel to Omaha Des Moines Blair Lincoln and other towns for business visits and leisure. Notable movements include Mrs B R Wasson Mrs W F Graham and J A McWard, while Rev W J Beck plans to relocate in Atlantic. The Red Men conduct funeral services for Thomas Townsend at the Atlantic cemetery.
An advertisement claims a lovely woman’s health depends on constancy of organs and blood quality. It promotes Electric Bitters as a cure for constipation, stomach, liver, and kidney issues, promising strong nerves, bright eyes, and a smooth complexion. Sold for 50 cents at Vic Emmert & Co drug store.
Public notice states Lot 12, Block 11, Atlantic, Cass County Iowa was tax sold December 7, 1896 to F O Temple. Certificate assigned to H W Hanna. Redemption expires nine ty days after service. Treasurer's deed will be issued if not redeemed. Dated September 1899 by H W Hanna. Also unrelated ads for Mrs Winslow's Soothing Syrup and horses for sale by R E Kine.
Mrs J P Dinges of 501 Spruce street states she suffered years with kidney pain loins and ankle swelling.
