Omaha Bridge Case Decision Ends Dispute Over Iowa Rates
The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled that Omaha and Council Bluffs face unequal traffic conditions in Iowa and dismissed the complaint against Chicago and Northwestern Railway in the Omaha bridge case. The decision finds no unlawful discrimination, noting Council Bluffs’ advantageous location and matching rates on parallel routes, with dissenting views from Morrison and Clements. Separately, Milwaukee War coverage notes Wisconsin Central cutting Chicago to St Paul Minneapolis rates by 8 dollars, effective immediately, as Chicago St Paul lines engage in rate competition.
