Masked men rob Southern Express train at Berry station
Three masked men halted train No 5 on the Southern railroad at Berry station seven miles west of Birmingham at 7 p m and robbed the express car. It was the second such robbery in a month. They detached the car, overpowered the messenger, opened the local safe for about 150 dollars, seized a four gallon jug of whisky, then escaped on horses. A posse with bloodhounds from the Quealburg penitentiary pursues.

Governor Leedy pardoned H C Wilmoth alias Howell alias Howe alias Howatt who had 210 months for bigamy. Arrested in Terre Haute Ind while about to marry a wealthy woman, he also married Miss Bella Buella of Effingham Ill. His eight year spree spanned Cincinnati Minneapolis Chicago Denver Terre Haute St Joseph Fresno Zanesville Effingham Seneca and Kansas City. He had previously served a Missouri sentence. He was sent to the Kansas penitentiary to fulfill his desert before others claimed him.
