BAD CONDUCT OF COLORED TROOPS IN TEXARKANA FRAY
A Texas Gazette report from Texarkana notes eight train loads of 1200 soldiers from the Tenth United States Cavalry en route to San Antonio created a drunken mob. They torn doors and barged into a resort. Constable Rochelle pursued, captured a leader, and was fired on by 100 rifles but escaped. Trains remained halted seven hours as authorities sought arrests, with armed guards and a dynamite-threat mood subsiding without bloodshed.
