A Cumberland dispute erupts between a Baptist editor and local preacher over a paper squib. A livery-stable owner backed a boycott, aided by a jackass in a barn near three churches, as townspeople split into factions over removing the animal and editor.
J Childa shipped a car load of hogs in Chicago yesterday. Frank Brown of Cumberland visited the city today. We carry Kodak Daylight film cameras and all supplies for amateur photographers. Fred Alexandar and Thomas Sohner of Extra were in the city yesterday and last night. Fred Alexander and T B Stoller were down from Siovta yesterday and spent last night in the city.
A long city update reports Brown shot White on the firing line and mentions Colonel Lopez at the front. It lists many residents visiting Atlantic, business trips, and local concerns including park disturbances, Ringling Bros circus plans, council meetings, street and rail issues, and several personal notices from Cass and adjoining counties.
The court house custodian Mr. Frost played a practical joke by placing a life size advertising image of a woman in the vault and clerk offices. Recorders Herbert Moonvil and others were surprised and embarrassed as the image appeared in multiple rooms before being removed.
A party of adventurers who left a week ago for Spirit Lake returned after reaching Wall Lake for a rest. Poor weather and nearly impassable roads forced them to abandon the journey and head home. Five rode the Audubon train this afternoon while the sixth plans to drive home later today.
The Atlantic Canning Co and several western factories plan a new plant to manufacture cans as prices have doubled since last November. They aim to produce cans at cost, create jobs, and reduce reliance on external suppliers, urging Atlantic to act. The text also mentions Foley's Honey and Tar as a truthful remedy offering comfort and early cure.
