Chicago officials announce a whisky limit of 22 000 pints per day. Druggists may sell 100 gallons of whisky wine or gin each month. About 1 200 druggists are affected. The notice comes from Gupt H Be Howard prohibition director and was shared with the Retail Druggists association.

A 220 ton boulder loosened from a bluff above the Mississippi near Fort Madison Iowa rolled onto the Burlington passenger line between Fort Madison and Keokuk narrowly missing a derailment. The emergency brake hurled passengers from seats as the rock smashed the water tank and damaged cars. Two switch engines later dragged the boulder away with chains.

Springfield March 1. The state will not award contracts for the bond issue grade roads until prices fall. Frank I Bennett director of public works and buildings said he would issue a statement later on the 1930 road building program. The announcement practically abandons the plan for 1,100 miles of hard roads this year.
Washington March 15 Rear Admiral William S Benson was confirmed by the Senate to join the Shipping Board to succeed John B Payne who will become secretary of the interior. The confirmation came late Saturday.
