Republicans Push Social Security Expansion Measure
The House Ways and Means Committee approved a Republican sponsored bill to add 3.5 million people to Social Security. Rep Reed of New York led a subcommittee in drafting the measure which would let state and local government employees join the old age insurance plan if approved locally. Some non profit workers could participate if their organizations choose. The plan would allow elderly people to earn up to 40 dollars a month without losing pension eligibility.
