Remains of Pvt. Charles W. Snyder Arrive for Funeral
The body of Pvt. Charles W. Snyder of Atlantic will arrive at 10 morning and lie in state at Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home before a Sunday 2:30 p.m. service at Atlantic Methodist church. Rev. L. D. Thomas to officiate with Veterans Service Committee honors and original Company K casket bearers. Interment in Field of Glory, Atlantic cemetery. Snyder, born August 18 1918 in Atlantic, joined Feb 19 1941. served in Camp Claiborne and North Africa invasion.

Effa Geneva Smith 68 a lifelong Case county resident died Monday at Atlantic Memorial hospital after a long illness. Born June 13 1884 north of Atlantic she married Sheldon L. Smith June 23 1910 and lived on the family farm. Surviving husband three children two sisters two brothers and four grandchildren funeral services Wednesday at Roland Peacock Baxter funeral home with interment in Atlantic cemetery remains at the funeral home until service hour.

Perry Showers Dies After Stroke at 66 in Lewis
Perry Showers 66 longtime Lewis resident died at 1 a m Monday at Atlantic Memorial hospital after a stroke at his son Gele’s home northwest of Lewis. Born December 10 1881 in Lewis he farmed and ran a restaurant and bakery before returning to Lewis in 1928. Surviving are his son a Sioux City stepdaughter two sisters and seven grandchildren. Funeral at Lewis Christian Church Wednesday 10 30 a m with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The Taylor funeral home handled arrangements.

Memorial Day Traffic Toll Reaches Eleven in Towa Weekend

Stockyard fire losses top six hundred thousand dollars
A prairie fire at South St. Paul Minnesota destroyed a fifth of the stockyards area during Memorial Day. Three firemen collapsed from smoke while the inferno swept over under sheds corrals and stock chutes. About 2 000 cattle were driven into swamp land along the Mississippi River with 50 head killed. none of the firemen were seriously injured. Fishing party visitors from Corning and Red Oak traveled homeward via northern Iowa.
