A chimney fell during cleanup at Comn Rapids injuring Harold Atterberry and Oliver Mitchell, two young men. Witnesses say the accident occurred as they were clearing debris in a bhin chimney, with nearby onlookers unsettled by the tragedy and its somber turn toward comedy.
Society items report Miss Fay Dunn daughter of Mrs 3 EB and Jan Howard Clemensen of Harlan will wed. Clemensen an ensign stationed in New York City and the couple will live there. A miscellaneous shower for the bride at Mrs R D Morrow’s home featured Christmas decorations with gifts presented by Lorraine Morrow and Donald Southwick.
A 4,000 foot high parachute escape ends with the rope deliberately cut by a German pilot as a balloon crewman recounts the moment a second rope unravels. The narrator recalls the attack, the shredded parachute, and the moment the German grinned before firing. He claims to have obtained the enemy plane number.
Cuthbert Mills, an aerial mail service aviator, burned to death when his plane fell 3000 feet and caught fire two miles north of Rockville Centre New York after departing Mineola. After forty six hours of deliberation the Wilkerson jury in Ottumwa Iowa returned without a verdict and was dismissed. The defense sought a bodyguard saying a near collision with State Agent Terrell last June prompted security concerns. Judge Hunter granted the request though he did not deem it necessary. The piece ends with an unrelated note about joining a Christmas Savings Club at Farmers Savings Bank.

A letter from Harl AH Coffee describes German aviation brought down by an American rifle squad in France. While resting by a road, the group saw a low-flying plane drop grenades. a lucky shot killed the pilot, ending the aircraft’s flight in a crash. The account claims this was a rare rifle victory and unlikely to be repeated.
Secretary Daniels told the house naval committee that without a League of Nations tribunal to limit armaments the United States must construct the world's greatest navy, stating the nation faces this obligation unless such a body is established in Washington, D. C. on December 31.
