Joseph W. Craig of Walnut has closed a deal to purchase the Jefferson Herald and will take possession January 1. The consideration is said to be 316,000. The Herald is published at Jefferson, the Greene county county seat, a large town on the main line of the North railroad.

British merchant tonnage losses totaled 8,081,828 gross tons from the war start to October 31, with new UK construction at 4,842,296 tons. Purchases abroad reached 530,000 tons and enemy tonnage captured stood at 716,520. Net loss amounted to 8,448,012 tons.
