Red Oak and Des Moines Interurban Railway Plans
The Red Oak and Des Moines Interurban Railway Company plans a 68 mile route from Red Oak to Des Moines with steam freight and gas motor passenger cars. A four week survey aims to map the line, using expert engineers and a transit man, with surveys existing for Adel to Des Moines and Red Oak to Greenfield. Executive changes prompt a move to hire professional staff to manage ongoing operations and expenses. Secretary Spencer reports gas electric cars from General Electric, 60 feet long, seating 46, with steam exhaust heat, storage battery lighting, two 109 horsepower motors, water tanks, braked air system, and baggage space.
