Burr device passes tests on mail car at Anita and Moline
A commission appointed by the Post Office Department tested Burr’s unloading mail device on a railroad car at Anita and later at Moline with three speeds and weights, finding no failures. The test involved veteran engineer Jack Colwell, multiple officials from Rock Island and other rail firms, and aimed to assess performance across 249 rounds. Authorities will also inspect Sioux City and assess seventy applicants for government favor, with Burr’s device claimed to be the only practical system delivering mail daily on No 7.
