Fearful Night Collision Kills Seven on Macon & Western
At New Year’s dawn a head-on wreck near Bear Creek, Georgia, killed seven negroes on the up train and injured several on the down train. Engineer Alexander Johnson, asleep at Bear Creek, woke too late to stop. both engines and cars were wrecked. The disaster damaged the line, with costs pegged around one hundred fifty thousand dollars, bodies transported to Griffin, and Patti of the Strakosch troupe aiding the injured.

Fire tears through Col Jno Gray’s brick business block
Christmas sleet and ice gave way to a blaze that consumed a two story brick business house owned by Col. John W. Gray. Prompt citizen efforts saved the town from wider damage as the roof fell in within twenty minutes. Gray suffered about ten thousand dollars in losses. insurance was two thousand five hundred. He was praised for energy and resilience in rebuilding.
