Governorays, acting on the statement that Joe Coker, serving a sentence for second degree murder, is critically ill of swamp fever and cannot recover, has pardoned Coker.
In Mena Arkansas on September 26 David G Miller aged 82 and Mrs Vernilla Slawson aged 88 obtained a marriage license and were married. Miller is father of thirteen living children with the eldest aged 44, and the couple together have 103 children grandchildren and great grandchildren.
New York reports a pastry house head at the Vanderbilt Hotel, Nicolas Herbschlei, lost a game of pinochle for a beard and later his moustache, then shaved off his beard in the cafe. He found himself unrecognizable by his chef and returned home to obtain a barber shave.
San Francisco on September 26 reports Martin Ulrich of Oakland and friends fishing near Angel Island when a strong tug caused the launch to plunge. A shape rose from the foam and revealed submarine K-27 taking a practice spin. Ulrich cut the line to avoid a collision.
SAN FRANCISCO September 26. John Jaugan became the first stowaway to pass the Panama Canal and arrived aboard the steamship Admiral Schley. After discovery he joined the crew and polished brass for 23 days, earning exactly 1 cent.
From Bilbao reports. General Huerta ex-president of Mexico angered by questions about treatment of Spaniards in Mexico. He swore loudly and the interview was abandoned by the correspondent. Mexican Consul apologized for the outburst as Huerta and family moved to Cadiz.
