Harry Orburn, freed from Atlanta Federal Prison after 19 months, accuses guards of brutal treatment and dungeon punishments. He says convicts were beaten for minor infractions, food was poor, and a prisoner known as Dummy died after a guarding blow. He calls for an impartial investigation into Warden Moyer's administration.
The Atlanta Georgian and Sunday American plan to gift four elaborate Christmas trees to Atlanta churches. Each tree, decorated with candles, tinsel, and candy, will honor child readers. Churches win by attracting new six month subscribers between December 1 and 20, with votes earned per new six month contract.

Mrs J B Whitehead of Atlanta known as the wealthiest widow in the South left New York for Lynchburg Virginia to join her fiancé Keely Frans who was rushed to a sanitarium after an acute appendicitis attack on a train. Evans was stricken en route and taken to a Lynchburg sanitarium. Whitehead’s philanthropy and engagement have been widely commented on across the United States and Canada.
English suffragette leader Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst spoke at Carnegie Hall praising Hearst newspapers for fair play toward the suffrage movement. She said Hearst papers endorse militant action in England and support the recognition of women in the United States, expressing deepest gratitude to Hearst and his newspapers.
Washington dispatch reports Representative Britton of Illinois introduced a House resolution urging the Judiciary Committee to probe whether American meat packers control the Argentine beef supply and thus fix US prices. A Mexican border dispatch reports 700 to 800 federal prisoners arrived in Juarez on a special train amid the recent rebel Huerta battle. Wounded fill hospitals as 1,000 more are said to be en route. Rebels pursue retreating federals, while Villa maintains outposts guarding the area.
