A rapid shower arrived in Atlanta at noon unexpectedly easing the heat after a record morning. Thermometers rose to 96 by 11 am then fell 20 degrees, returning to 75, before sun returned and highs climbed again. Forecasters expect more heat with brief showers likely in the days ahead.
London June 11 suffragists attempted an attack on Westminster Abbey placing a bomb under the Order of Coronation chair. It exploded after dark chipping the coronation stone but authorities say damage is not believed to be grave. Private detectives and Scotland Yard rushed to guard the Abbey as MPs panicked during Home Secretary McKenna's Commons statement.
The Georgia Supreme Court held income certificates issued by life insurers to be unsecured promises and not enforceable liabilities. The Lochridge case against State Mutual Life and a Cherokee Life matter confirm certificates are payable only after liquidation and other claims. With present law, insurers may delay or forego payment, undermining these investments.

Detectives searched the home of J. W. Fain at 328 Simpson Street for an hour and uncovered a concealed ceiling door in a second floor closet. A small compartment held fifteen cases of whisky. Leavenworth Kansas June 11 federal prisoners escaped guards but twenty one paroled squad members went into the woods unarmed and after an all night search captured the fugitives. The three searchers who found the men pretended to be escaping and tricked the fugitives to a prison guard's home.
A massive fire at Mallinckrodt Chemical Works in St Louis caused more than 1 million dollars in damage after an ether explosion lit the plant overnight. The blaze sparked a sequence of 25 tank explosions in one room, endangering firefighters as authorities fought the blaze.
Henry Ford, in a letter to Detroit General Hospital directors, offered to take over the West Grand Boulevard property, complete the construction, and provide Detroit a first class hospital. His offer, as chairman of the board, was accepted unanimously.

New York June 11 Pauline Welch Fisher wife of Bud Fisher, creator of Matt and Jeff, lies near death after an auto collision on Baychester Road. She was pinned under a car and taken to Fordham Hospital unconscious. Fisher, famed vaudeville star, met her husband during a Forsyth Theater bill in Atlanta where they starred together.
In Chattanooga on June 11 Mrs J T Hornsby and her young daughter from Athens suffered serious injuries when a trolley car rolled down a hill and collided with another crowded car after a power failure.

Governor Slaton declined to intervene in Nick Wilburn’s death sentence for the murder of James King, a Jones County farmer. Wilburn will be hanged at Grays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday. He had sought clemency arguing Mrs. King’s acquittal and the case’s merits, but the governor held no right to spare the life.
