Mrs. John Cheek, wife of a street car conductor, confronted a large intruder in her Fulton street home after he drank brandy and ransacked the house. She slapped him, knocked him down, and recovered a revolver, ordering him to run as she expelled him from the premises.

New York January 20 President Wilsons anti trust message received with favor on Wall Street. After Congress read the message stock prices rose across the list then retraced slightly as earlier gains faded a touch.
William Ober kirck and Harold Shirley were convicted in Federal Court of shanghaiing Mac Laurin Clarke and Emmett Smith of Columbus Georgia. They were fined 200 dollars and sentenced to six months each in the Atlanta Federal Prison. They will serve the sentences.
Professor William Howard Taft writes to the assessors protesting the tax on his second hand car. He states he bought the vehicle for $2,000 and challenges valuing it at $4,950 in New Haven on January 20.
