W. S. West of Valdosta, named by Governor Slaton on Wednesday afternoon, to fill the late A. O. Bacon’s U S Senate seat. The decision follows Bacon's passing and marks West as the new senator designate from Georgia, joining the national political scene amid wartime policy shifts.

A family escapes a fierce Peachtree road blaze that consumed the upper floors of Charles H. Black’s residence, causing about 30 000 dollars in damage. Mrs Black carries their seven year old son from smoke while 11 year old Charles H. Black Jr follows. The roof collapses as the family reaches safety and seek aid at Henry W. Grady’s nearby home.
