Mrs. Will m Leon West, an eighteen year old Brenau College graduate, traveled from Gainesville to Atlanta to wed a Mercer College star accused of past misconduct. She says the couple plans to start a business in Atlanta and pursue her music career while balancing married life.
In Ernon Texas on February 25 John Snead was found not guilty of killing Al Boyce Jr. in Amarillo. The jury concluded Snead killed Boyce over alleged elopement threats and returned to his wife, who said he planned the act after learning Boyce planned contact. A masked man waited at the home etc.
Cecilia Loftus the actress is seriously ill at a hotel in Memphis and her engagement here has been cancelled due to a severe cold. She arrived for rehearsal but was unable to perform.
General Bramwell Booth, president of the Salvation Army, has been proposed for the Nobel peace prize. The suggestion notes his forty years of work toward the salvation of mankind and his role as a major factor in international peace. He succeeded his father, General William Booth, after his death last spring.
The cold weather drives Atlanta’s poor to seek help from the Salvation Army, city warden, and Associated Charities. Shelters open, coal orders surge, and temperatures fall to 28 degrees with freezing throughout the week. Blizzards in the northwest are blamed for Atlanta’s chilly spell.
Miss Tillie May Cheen of 373 Woodward avenue was named Queen of Beauty at the Gate City Guards and Grady cadets bazaar held at the Houston street armory. Seven contestants competed with six others named, and Mrs Green received a large silver loving cup inscribed for the occasion as crowds thronged the ongoing event.
In Birmingham England on February 25 Mrs Robert EF Scott widow of the explorer who perished in the Americas hears via wireless telegram that her husband died at sea. Her brother Bruce and sister report the news as she remains well despite the tragedy.
President Taft asks Congress to pay Panama immediately the first $250,000 instalment as part of the 1903 canal treaty. He notes Colombia blocked ratification of a triangular agreement with the United States and Panama, prompting a return to the original terms and a $2,500,000 claim.
