Sheriff Released in Killing Case Held Brother Detained

Franklin Ga December 12 Dawson Taylor remanded to jail without bond awaiting grand jury action on murder charge in the death of Frank McWaters. His brother Lee Taylor Heard county sheriff was released after being charged with complicity. Glenn McWaters son of the dead man attended trial and is recovering from wounds. The shooting occurred at the McWaters home about ten miles from Franklin on Thanksgiving night during a party.

Official Defends Granting License to Negro Official Defends Self

Chicago December 12 Friends of County Clerk Robert Sweitzer were stirred by an attack over issuing a license for Jack Johnson to wed Lucille Cameron. John Conner, asked to serve as toastmaster at a De La Salle alumni banquet, said he would not act for a man who had issued such a license. Sweitzer later explained it was his sworn duty and he had fulfilled his oath, knowing violation could bring cheap tune.
