About ten unionized employees walked out at the Atlanta Steel Company, maker of wire nails, after a request for shorter hours was denied. The men, who had endured fifteen hours shifts daily, said back orders forced overtime. Management denied any large-scale strike and declined to comment.
Miss Nannon Mott a Southern Bell operator living at 323 Luckie street describes a brutal purse snatching on Monday night near Tabernacle place. A well dressed young man about 20, who stepped from shadows, struck her, ripped the handbag, and fled with only small change and cards. She plans safer routes after the fright.
At public auction two Hemphill estate parcels on East Alabama street fetched record prices. George Felker of Monroe bought the larger lot for 55974, $1140 per front foot, with a Swift & Co lease and railroad frontage. John Alexander won the second parcel at 32411, or 875 per front foot, occupying Nos. 61 and 63 East Alabama street between Pryor and Central avenues. Auction conducted by Edawin P. Ansley Co under commissioners, Steve Johnston auctioneer, before the courthouse door.
Mayor James G. Woodward faced pressure to seek the governorship as letters of support flowed in from across the state. A traveling man claimed broad elector sentiment favored Woodward’s candidacy. On Tuesday the mayor refused to commit, but signaled he was weighing the race.

Eleven new larceny indictments were filed against Henry Siegel and Frank E Vogel in New York on April 7. They are charged with obtaining from local banks by fraudulent statements about their enterprises a total of 2.5 million dollars in 1913. They already faced charges related to the Siegel Bank failure and their department stores.
In Sacramento on April 7 a plan announced to distribute 75 million ladybugs to California farmers this spring to combat aphids harming melon hop bean and grain crops. Dr Cook State Horticulturist said demand exceeds supply by about 40 percent this year.

Mertice Bayles Freedman, married at age twelve to Sam Freedman who deserted her a year after their union, obtained a divorce at eighteen in Judge Ellis' court where no defense was raised. She said she fell in love with him as a child while he ran a soda fountain and kept her supplied with ice cream sodas. The judge remarked he wished he could have Freedman in court for ten minutes.
Charles W. Morse admitted purchasing the Holder estate property at Bay Shore Long Island. The home, once owned by John J. Ryan, passed to the Musica family whose hair goods and drafts dealings led to trouble with U S authorities.
In Champaign Illinois on April 7 Dean Davenport of the University of Illinois urged the nation to cut spending on clothing housing and amusements to combat the high cost of living.
Washington reports Secretary of State Bryan's condition improved after a severe cold. He remains indoors as advised by his physician.

Boosters of the granite highway cheered after a civil engineer’s favorable report at the Granite Highway Association meeting. Detectives pursue a trail of groceries stolen from M. Ableman wholesale store on Piedmont avenue after burglars entered by a rear window. The wagonload included flour lard rice and side meat. The likely second target was Georgia Azan on Decatur street with shoes hose and dresses taken.
In Macon on April 7 a remarkable marriage occurred. Bride Emma Ford, 25, weighed 480 pounds, while groom Napoleon Norman, a cotton mill worker, weighed 140 pounds. The bride, self conscious about her size, has rarely left home. The ceremony drew several hundred attendees.

The Butte County Democratic Central Committee passed a resolution urging candidates to stop giving drinks cigars and candy to women voters while men may still receive gifts. It labels such acts as cheap bribery and calls on other party committees to join the action.
Washington April 7 The Senate Committee on Woman Suffrage favorably reported the Bristow resolution for a Constitutional amendment for equal suffrage identical with the Chamberlain resolution previously defeated by the Senate It will go to the calendar but action this session is regarded as unlikely.
Mrs. IH Willingham aged 86 of Tifton is critically ill at her daughter’s home on Forrest avenue after a broken hip from a fall. She was brought to Atlanta for treatment. She has five teen children, nine living, and belongs to the Baptist Church.
