Two leading Democrats Bryan and Bailey are likely to meet in Atlanta for a forensic contest in the city auditorium. The event expected in May features the rival candidates presenting arguments before a public audience and judges.
Fort Worth Texas September 28 Special United States Senator Bailey telegraphed William Jennings Bryan in Lincoln Neb indicating willingness to meet Bryan in joint debate in the new Atlanta auditorium. The Young Men's Democratic League of Atlanta invited them and a formal invitation would be sent by Charles W Bernhardt president. Bryan indicated readiness to accept and would answer Bailey's telegram today.
Stegall and Sheriff Thurman failed to report to District Attorney Tate as planned to secure Stegall’s freedom on bond. The pair were to be brought to Atlanta, but disappeared during the transfer, with Stegall last heard from in Chattanooga being interviewed and seeking the sheriff. Federal officials await further word as search continues.
In Hinesville Georgia on September 28 Charles A Gordon stands trial for the murder of William N Faulling Jr with his wife Mrs Helen Faulling also on trial as an accessory The eleven year old son of Faulling testified about shell borrowing and a witness suggested Gordon threatened to get rid of Faulling The case features a difficult history including Faulling's body found partly buried in a field and allegations of a long troubled relationship involving Gordon and Mrs Faulling The defense and prosecution teams include J N Norman Frank Oliver Octavius Cohen Frazer and the Way brothers with Gordon represented by Walter and Benjamin Way The elder Faulling believed Gordon murdered his son and will not discuss Mrs Faulling s involvement while Mrs Faulling remains marked by distress
