City Marshal James M Fuller rebuts Alderman James W Maddox over comments about his office. Fuller accuses Maddox of false statements and says patience can end when protecting himself and his staff. He defends Sayeel and his office amid the dispute in the fifth ward.
A former city marshal asserts annual collections through the marshal’s office total 221 433.32 dollars, far higher than claimed. He denies employing a special attorney to collect deeds, explaining deeds are prepared by the marshal and turned over to the city clerk before tax and license processes, urging taxpayers to judge the work of his office rather than sensational claims by the alderman.
Madison Ga September 14 Cotton is booming in Madison market with 11 1/2 cents per pound yesterday and continued advance. Cotton seed brings 45 cents per bushel and farmers are happy though Morgan county acreage is reduced and the crop is short due to drought.
Georgia Court of Appeals affirms and reverses several cases from diverse lower courts. Ferger Grain Company Eatonton Milling and Grocery Company defeated. Hancock Empire Cotton Oil Company lost. Lewis v State reversed. Southern Railway Company v Bennett reversed. Willems v State reversed. Multiple lawyers listed for each side.
Judge RB Jackson. Stella Griffin of Villa Rica. and Co Garrett were indicted yesterday on blackmail by George H Rauch. Griffin has been in prison after municipal court bound over by Judge ED Thomas. The case arose from Rauch’s claim that Griffin received a $1200 love gift check and later retained it. Fauch was represented by Colonel T B Felder. Charges against Rauch were dismissed after he swore out a warrant against Griffin’s attorney Jude Jackson and Garrett for criminal conspiracy.
J R Horton won the Ben Hill County ordinary post in a September 24 special election to fill the late Judge C M Wise. Horton defeated two rivals, A E Jones and D E Griffin, to secure the position.
