Yellow fever strikes Savannah as deaths rise

TILDEN TAX CONTROVERSY CLAIMS FICTITIOUS ITEMS

Judge Sinnott, once Gov. Tilden's law clerk, states that thirteen claimed income items totaling 110400 include eleven items of 84000 that are fictitious and two items about 26000 only partly true. He argues the Times report is false and Tilden owed no tax to January 1862.
