Alabama Republicans Indorse Roosevelt for renomination
In Birmingham on September 17, Alabama Republicans voted narrowly to endorse President Roosevelt and nominated A. W. Smith for governor, a foe of the president during the campaign. The ticket includes Lane for lieutenant governor, Armbrecht for attorney general, Carter for secretary of state, McNair as auditor, Brown as treasurer, Fonville for education, Morton for agriculture, and W. A. Smith as governor. The platform reiterates the Philadelphia program, supports labor organization, child labor limits in cotton mills, railroad protections, and Dingley tariff support, while opposing drastic measures and endorsing an interoceanic canal project.
