Geneva reports 2,371,750 Russians captured since May 1 by Austrian and German forces. La Suisse cites 6,000 guns and 4,000 machine guns captured, from Berlin and Vienna bulletins. It notes earlier Austrian German figures counted 1,395,000 Russian prisoners before May 1, with total Russian forces at the front since the war’s start placed at 1,060,000, raising total figures to about 1,141,092,250.
In Salisbury Maryland a deceased candidate T Toard vine was named as Democratic candidate for clerk of the circuit court after dying the day before the primary. His name remained on the ticket, receiving more votes than opponent J Clayton Kelley, who plans to contest the nomination.
Four well dressed men in an automobile sought money from Mrs. W D Owens widow of a bank cashier at her Briar Clue road home. They claimed to need funds and talked of leaving town. S G Burnett 27 remover from Bartow Street, Cincinnati origin, arrested after police traced the incident. Car and suspects fled, searches extended across roads and waterways with no trace found by dawn.
