President Taft's telegram to Congressman Livingston-Hill announces Judson Strickland of Griffin to replace Alex Akerman as 5th district census supervisor. Joseph W. In Danville Kentucky near the Boyle line two unknown men attacked Rufus Maynard a Casey county farmer at his door. He was beaten unconscious and his ears were torn from his head and his nose nearly removed local details indicate a raids by an outlaw band or a posse searching for Cane.

A pocketbook containing about $20, pieces of jewelry, a gold necklace, gold watch, opal and emerald ring, two mileage books, and a valuable receipt disappeared. police were notified and descriptions provided to Officers Wood and West.
Passengers report a shooting and rock throwing in a Seaboard coach coming from Atlanta near Statham Georgia. No injuries occurred. An investigation will determine the shooter.

John W Castles, president of the Union Trust Company and director of multiple firms, killed himself at the Grand Union Hotel in New York by slashing his throat. His body was found by his brother Burton S Castles. No note was left, and authorities cited a nervous breakdown and poor health. Castles, aged, resided at 40 Park Avenue with his wife Elizabeth and their children Francis and John W Jr. He held numerous positions including director at Central of Georgia Railway and Chesapeake and Ohio Railway, and served as United States trustee for the Northern Assurance Company.
A jailed Atlanta street musician John Faircloth, 28, on Pratt Street, was held on a charge of accepting a five cent piece from a well dressed stranger who meant to pass a nickel. The man claimed the coin was gold. Faircloth allegedly displayed the coin to a minister before it vanished, leading to his arrest. Separate reports note a Nashville furniture plant fire of 60,000 dollars loss and Premier Asquith guarded by plainclothes police during a golf outing amid fears of unrest.

Durham reported the ninth pellagra death as the disease widens in the state. Two new cases were found, with one survivor likely to die within a week. New York September 13 The Harriman policies in the management of the Union Pacific Southern Pacific and allied railroads were clarified today with Robert E Lovett elected to head the Union Pacific executive committee to succeed Harriman. Jacob H Schiff and William Rockefeller were elected directors replacing Harriman and Rogers and seated on the executive committee. Lovett remains a leading Harriman ally as Union Pacific plans a future president at its October 12 stockholders meeting.
