Baptizing ends in fatal shooting in Columbus
In Columbus Georgia on September 12 a baptism in the Chattohoochee river turned deadly when A J Hill, a Black man, shot and killed Stanford Harper after Harper accused him of stealing a half pint of whisky. The incident occurred as the preacher emerged from the water with about five hundred onlookers present. Hill fled but was arrested by Sheriff Jesse Beard and jailed in Muncogee county. Hill claims self defense.

Young Man Shoots And Beats Woman At Florence Hotel
Fred Warfield, 21, shot and severely beat Mrs. Emma Jones, 33, in a Florence hotel room on Sunday at 11:30 am, then fled. Police found a disordered scene. Jones was taken to Grady hospital and declined to talk. Warfield and his father Robert Warfield remained at large as officers pursued leads.
