Telegrams report a hot wave lifting from the Dakotas toward Atlanta with high temperatures expected late in the week. Rapid City reached 102 in the shade on Monday while Bismarck noted continued cool conditions elsewhere.
A sweltering heat wave hits cities with 94 in one locale and 100 in Abilene Texas as forecasts vary by hour. In Atlanta, a pleasant stroll drew crowds while chatter in the capitol wove odd humor about extra session talks and the convicts question. Georgia’s legislature remains in heated debate as forecasts suggest the end of summer could arrive tonight.
A September 8 fire at the Swift Cotton Mill warehouse in Elberton destroyed all finished goods and the warehouse, valued at about 299060 watts, with $1000 patent damage. Insurance covers losses. A second fire later that day damaged a nearby house owned by No MO Mattox, occupied by Mr OT Craft, destroying the five-room cottage and furniture insured at 800 and 600 respectively. The cook room origin of the second blaze is unknown.
