Temperatures and winds forecast for South Atlantic states and Gulf

City Democratic Executive Committee Reorganization Meeting

A brief informal session chaired by Hon. George T. Fry elected Walter R. Brown secretary. Resolution calls ward club presidents to organize for the campaign and sets a meeting on the 16th at 8 pm in the recorder's court room for a new executive committee. Custer Massacre Tale From Old Trapper Ridgely

Ridgely, an elderly trapper, recounts witnessing the Custer massacre from Sitting Bull’s camp. He says Sitting Bull aimed to drive miners from the hills, and describes ambushes, the assault near a ford on the Rosebud, and the brutal killing of six prisoners by fire.

Charleston Riot On King Street Ends With Scattered Firing

A Charleston riot erupted on King Street as a white mob and colored Democrats clashed after a group march to the Citadel Green. Police and militia intervened. Buckner died of wounds. Green the colored policeman was wounded. crowds dispersed but tension remained high through the night.

Marietta's Masquerade at Kenneeny House Delights City

Special to the Constitution reports a brilliant masquerade in Marietta Ga on September 8 1876 with a large turnout of maskers including Atlanta delegates. Cupid Abroad stole hearts as the centerpiece blue satin masque drew envy from attendees. A lost gold mounted alligator tooth button was found in city and offers a reward. Presbyterian entertainment at Jamra hall featured Miss Ackerman, Mrs Moore and Mr Werner performing Farewell the Joys of Earlier Years.

Eightmay execution at Canandaigua after murder confession

Eighth May, the Oakes Corners murderer, was hanged at Canandaigua this morning. Two brothers of the prisoner offered an embrace, which he refused. He declared guilt and forgave his accusers before the noose, then died within fifteen minutes. Also reported are yellow fever internments in Savannah and counterfeiting arrests in New York, plus war dispatches from the Balkans and railroad ticket agent protests in New York.
