Committee Not To Name A Candidate For Supreme Court
The Georgia Democratic executive committee debates whether to nominate a candidate for the supreme court or let the race go to the general election. Most favor an open race with no committee nomination, expecting a majority in the state to decide, possibly leading to a democratic legislature if a candidate fails to secure a statewide majority. Governor Candler to name a short term successor to Justice Lewis, with Samuel B. Adams or A. H. Hangell as likely appointees, Adams favored by many in the southern part of the state.
