Colonel Grith, a California park commissioner and millionaire, is jailed on an assault charge after his wife Mrs Grith was shot in the head and suffered a shoulder fracture in a Santa Monica hotel room. She says he forced her to answer questions then fired. he claims the wound was accidental as he turned from a trunk. The couple and their 5-year-old son had spent the summer there.
New London Conn September. Sergeant Ltis Bryson of the Second Company Coast Artillery stationed at Fort H G Wright Frehers Island was shot by a sentry while under arrest for creating a disturbance. Private Price, ordered to fire a blank, allegedly fired a loaded shell by mistake, killing Bryson instantly. Price is under arrest as military authorities investigate.
South bound Big Four passenger No 21 wrecked near Gosheard when a cow was struck this morning. Engine overturned, crew uninjured. While clearing track a chain broke causing injury to bystanders. Samuel Olver suffered a broken thigh, Victor Kaufman badly hurt, and Charlie Abiwine seriously injured.
A midnight fire on Main Street, Columbia, engulfed the Wiley building and nearby Desportes and Mimnaugh blocks. Josses losses include Mimnaughs clothing store and stock estimated at 7000, Xepanas soda fountain fixtures at 2000, Kaletski clothing at 800, and upstairs Wiles building and College stock damaged by water. total town loss around 15000. Fire was under control by 1:31 am.
The annual Labor Day celebration in Atlanta features a five division parade starting around 11 o'clock at Ponce de Leon with a head of marchers on Pryor and Mitchell. Floats, uniforms, and bands lead the processional route from West Mitchell to the Aragon hotel, followed by races, games, and a greased pig contest at Ponce de Leon park.
The Third United States artillery, stationed at Chickamauga park, will march about 800 miles to Fort Meyer Virginia in a 45 day trek. About 300 men will ride cannons and ammunition carriages, using old routes through mountainous country. The march, ordered by the War Department, aims to be the longest peace march by a regular army unit. In Knoxville the Third Baptist church saw Rev. R. C. Madaris of Jonesboro Arkansas receive a call to join the Arkansas Baptist board.
H J Skeffington Boston labor leader arrives in Atlanta on the Washington Limited. A committee of local union men meets him at the station and escorts him to the Aragon hotel where he will stay. Skeffington, a Boot and Shoemakers' Union member, is known as a noted orator and labor questions student.
Wade H Nance of Atlanta was robbed of $80 cash a gold watch and a diamond ring valued at 250 after being drugged in a saloon near Fermsylvania station. He was found unconscious and treated at an hospital. Police plan a thorough investigation. Nance is a Decatur street fish dealer living at 12 Central Avenue.
Police investigate a drowning and gunshot homicide in St Louis involving a well dressed man found with a bullet hole between the eyes and only three cents in his pockets. The shoes bore the marking D A Pitts Cordele Ga, suggesting robbery as motive. Autopsy strengthens murder theory. body in river ten days.

Militants clash with Turkish troops. villagers are killed, women assaulted, and a monastery burned as peasants flee to the mountains. Bulgaria aims for neutrality with warnings against war.
