Through Train from Atlanta to Savannah Debuts in Georgia
The Central's new fast through train from Atlanta to Savannah carries a full consist including an engine named Ohio and diverse cars. The maiden trip runs about a mile a minute between towns, with a lavish dining setup, first class colored and ladies cars, and a full bill of fare. Prominent figures included Bishop McTyeire, Bishops Cain Campbell Shorter, Dr. A G Haygood, Tennessee commissioner Crawford, Chancellor Starnes, Rev M E Strieby, Prof Cyrus Northrop, Rev E Spencer, and General Anton Fisk. Cyrus Marthrup delivered the dedicatory address urging congressional action for southern education. Other speakers included General Clinton B Fisk, Bishop McTyeire and Dr. Haygood. The gathering praised the faculty and the completion of the new building regarded as the greatest colored university in the world. The dedicatory prayer was by Rev M B Strieby. Livingston Hall is the second building after Jubilee Hall.
