New York October 27 Hugh Mc Laughlin of Brooklyn issued a sharp statement attacking Charles F Murphy and Tammany Hall. He said younger men pressed into the convention against his advice and noted he had surrendered leadership to them while remaining an adviser. He warned Murphy that Tammany could not win Brooklyn’s regular Democratic vote without Kings County cooperation.
Wesley Burris, one of four black men, was convicted before Special Judge AC Hawkins for taking part in a July riot in Evanarite. The trial lasted less than a day and carries a penalty of two to fourteen years in the state prison. Burris becomes the fourth man convicted in the case. Henry Patrick, a North Carolina resident, shot and killed his wife Mary Ellen Patrice at their home near the Benmitzile factory after returning from a whisky mill. The scene included a knife attack leaving six throat cuts and a pool of blood. Coroner’s inquest returned a verdict of death by gunshot wound inflicted by the husband. Patrick is jailed awaiting further proceedings.
