Richmond Celebrates Lee Monument Day Under Rain
A large turnout of ex Confederates gathered in Richmond for the Lee Monument ceremonies despite persistent rain and a damp mood. New Orleans October 27 reports say labor unrest spread across sugar belt plantations. Negro workers led by Knightia of Labor demanded twenty five cents more per day, rations unchanged. When refused, violence disrupted work as plantations appealed for state aid. Governor McEnery ordered artillery detachment to Terre Bonne to support civil authorities. A separate Arizona penitentiary break involved seven convicts seizing offerings from an office. guards were called to restore order. In Louisiana, Republican state committee Chair A J Badger announced party plans as the campaign looms.
