Jury loaned ears to ravings of mob in Frank trial

Reuben Arnold, counsel for Leo Frank, argued for a new trial calling the case a parallel to ritual murder myths. He denounced prejudice, warned the jury not to heed mob cries, and contrasted the Georgia case with anti Jewish prejudice in Russia, urging a logical ruling based on facts.

Mrs King Breaks Silence Accuses Nick Wilburn

In Gray Georgia on October 24, Mrs King gave a tearful, first public statement to The Constitution denying any other lover besides Nick Wilburn and claiming he forced himself on her repeatedly. She said Wilburn pressured her to back murder and claimed she saved her husband’s life once, with her husband unaware of the full extent of Nick’s actions. She described Nick as despondent, and recounted separate visits to their home, insisting she never consented to murder and had begged him to leave.

Deadlock on Bishop Question Divides Episcopal Body

New York October 24 A deadlock within the Protestant Episcopal church occurred at the general convention as bishops voted to establish a separate bishopric for negroes in the south with a seat for the district bishop in the upper house. Deputies vetoed this plan and urged referral to a joint commission for a report at the next triennial convention. The lower house will likely vote again tomorrow. The bishops also advanced a canon to sanction religious communities within diocese with real estate and endowments held in trust by the church. The deputies supported the canon. The convention also confirmed Rev Dr William Cabell Brown as bishop of the Cuba missionary district and discussed amending the constitution to require a two thirds vote to change the church name, with no action taken yet.
