A Georgia charity piece titled The Daughters of Love raises 1600 for an old ladies home. The verse celebrates Love as a deathless, sacred force, praising mothers and women who labor and suffer. The text calls on readers to welcome the homeless, urging support for a home for elderly women with maternal imagery and religious overtones.
A large audience at the Grand gathered for a charity meeting to aid the Old Ladies Home. Speakers Rev Sam Jekes and Hon John Temple Graves urged support as cash subscriptions and pledges helped push total funds toward 1590.96 dollars.
Eli Darrow, 40, shot and killed his daughter in law Lilian Darrow, 28, in a cab near a hotel in Sioux City. Both died at the scene after a double shooting that ended in suicide. Police found letters indicating marital distress and a troubled union prior to the tragedy.

An Edgewood avenue opera house lease is announced by Henry L DeGive and Jake Welle to be built in the triangular block opposite the Equitable building. Mazatlan reports representatives from the American Steamship Company say they plan to ship at least 300000 tons of Hawaiian sugar per year across the Mexican Isthmus under a contract with the National Railroad of Tehuantepec pending Panama Canal completion. Two steamers are being built in California yards and special equipment has been ordered by Tehuantepec management.
