Brunswick reports 23 new yellow fever cases and two deaths amid famine fears. Atlanta mobilizes aid statewide urging Georgia to contribute. The Constitution describes families starving, pets neglected, and exhausted relief efforts, with Brunswick residents pleading for real food and water while doctors test treatments.
Mayor John B. Goodwin urges Atlanta residents to aid Brunswick victims amid distress and destitution. Subscriptions via daily papers and the city comptroller at City Hall will be promptly forwarded.
The Constitution article sparked citywide relief efforts for Branswick sufferers. Subscriptions poured in from schools churches and individuals including Harry L. Schlesinger Langdon Bikery Comapans of Cincinnati and many firms. total contributions reach 489.50 dollars with numerous donors listed from New York Philadelphia and St. Louis.
Harry Schlessinger owner of a Alabama Street caney and crackers works read the Constitution’s Brunswick suffering story and organized aid. He ordered twenty five boxes of crackers and telegrammed Langdon Bakery in Cincinnati to match and ship the items at once for relief.
Acted on by Harry L. Schlesinger, telegraph messages were sent to 46 firms to raise funds for Brunswick's starving citizens. Responses from 20 firms came in with contributions including $100 from Nash, Spalding & Co. and $50 from Croft & Allen Co. The campaign expanded to shipping groceries and securing free transport. Brunswick ministers and Atlanta generosity are noted, with ministers Father Henessy and Rev. Ed I. Cook praised for steady aid. Mr. Schlesinger plans to double contributions and ship provisions today.

Raleigh N J October 11 Special weeks ago a Raleigh letter critical of Associate Justice A Avery in a Winston paper led Avery to seek an apology from ex Congressmen John Nichols. Nichols sent a reply which Avery found discourteous. Last night on a street, accompanied by his two sons, Avery confronted Nichols who drew a revolver as bystanders intervened.
Nichols said he neither wrote the letter nor inspired it. The affair terminated. This afternoon he appeared before the mayor on a charge of carrying concealed weapons and gave bond to appear at the superior court.
New York October 11. The International America’s Cup race between Vigilant and Valkyrie failed to finish within the time limit. Wind was too light to start or complete the 15 mile course, with the Valkyrie leading early but the Vigilant gaining advantage as wind faded and the race ended with darkness and no official result.
