Evansville Mob Seizes Redman in Jail and Kills Him
In Evansville Indiana on October 11 a mob of about one hundred Posey county men surround the county jail at two in the morning, seize Redman imprisoned for murder, and abduct him in a buggy. A firefight ensues with officers. Dave Murphy is killed. A fire engine overturns the buggy in a clash and Redman is fatally struck with a sledge hammer. Chief Pritchett and Detective Newell lead the response, shots fired as the mob flees, and Redman dies at the scene while being moved to the court house.
